Experience three historic sites in Rabat and Mdina by candlelight on 19th September 2026, with live music and €3 entry.

Overview

Museums by Candlelight returns to Rabat and Mdina on Saturday, 19th September, for the final edition of this year's series. From 7:00 p.m. onwards, with last admission at midnight, visitors can explore Domvs Romana, St Paul's Catacombs, and the National Museum of Natural History for just €3. The sites are illuminated by thousands of candles, with live music and entertainment throughout the evening.

Why Attend?

This event offers an intimate, after-dark experience of Malta's rich history. The candlelit setting creates a magical atmosphere, enhanced by live performances from harpist Laetitia, violinist Stephen Scerri, local band Skald, and Kathy the Violinist. At €3 per ticket, it is an affordable way to visit three major heritage sites in one night.

Agenda Highlights

  • Domvs Romana: Discover how a Roman aristocratic family lived nearly 2,000 years ago, with exquisite mosaics including the famous 'Drinking Doves'. Harpist Laetitia and violinist Stephen Scerri perform from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • St Paul's Catacombs: Descend into Malta's largest complex of underground Roman cemeteries, recently awarded the European Heritage Label. Local band Skald performs from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • National Museum of Natural History: Housed in 18th-century Vilhena Palace in Mdina, featuring specimens from a mummified Nile crocodile to a fossilised giant white shark tooth. Kathy the Violinist provides live music.

The event coincides with Rabat Sacrum, organised by the Rabat Local Council from 6:00 p.m. onwards, adding more spots to visit.
